Plants

This page is mainly to help me figure out what plant is which so I can research them, get more, and talk about them in an intelligent fashion.

Purpose of Plants (Besides Visuals)

Plants provide a lot of benefits besides visual aesthetics:

  • They heavily assist with the nitrogen cycle
  • They provide a place for shrimp, snails, and certain fish to get food from their decaying leaves and algae and biofilm buildup
  • They let your watercreatures hide and play, much like they would in the wild
  • They provide opportunities for 'nonswimmers' like snails and shrimp (yes, I know shrimp swim) to interact with swimmers (fish) that would otherwise not happen because of height and location differences

Java Fern

Go to it in the other section If you want to plant java fern, there will be a little green stem looking thing kinda 'inside' the roots. Make sure that stays above the substrate and it will send shooter roots down while keeping the stamen above the ground. If the stamen is below the substrate, it will rot.

Moss and algae are... moss and algae?
